On Monday the 5th of March at 4:50 pm 2007, a Truck Rental van decided to turn left from the right hand side and, needless to say, scrapped along the front right causing damage to both the fender and the mirror.
The driver was adamant that I tried to cut him off. Go figure! I must have driven up onto the pavement in order to cut him off not so? Oh wait! He stopped halfway across the intersection on the right hand side of the traffic light - with no indicator on - when I stopped next to his left with my indicator on to turn left!
Yes that is it! I deliberately cut him off when I stopped next to him on his left. I should have instinctively known that anyone who sits and waits at the right hand side of traffic light is naturally going to cut to the left to turn left mangling any vehicles that might be their way. Makes perfect sense! Just look at the photos and there is little doubt as to who is at fault.
What follows through this website is the Imperial group's total disregard for responsibility and good business practice. I will also document false promises and the fact that all this time later... I have still not been paid out. I've paid for my car to be repaired out of my own pocket and now for this domain and website.
So, here are the emails and telephonic conversations with various people at Imperial, at various departments
Att: Rosemary Moss
I'm not sure as to the right way to go about this so I thought the best would be to contact a director.
On Monday the 5th of March at 4:50 pm, give or take 10 minutes or so, an Imperial truck rental scrapped the side of my car, on the corner of 9th street and Louis Botha, Johannesburg. As you can see from the pictures I have included. This van cut across from the right side of the road to turn left colliding with me when the robot changed to green and we both started through the intersection. When I stopped at the robot he was stopped over the white lines and this is probably why he did not see me stop next to him and wait to turn left.
The details of the driver and vehicle are as follows:
Driver: Kenny Moleme
ID #: 660411 588 5086
Address: 118 Lion Ridge Ridgeway.
Vehicle: Pregio (RLG 536 GP)
The driver (Mr Moleme) insists it is my fault even though he cut across from the right hand side to collide with the side of my car. He also did not have his indicator on. I have sent you photographs showing where I stopped when he first clipped my car mirror and where he stopped after scrapping my fender. You can also see the scratches on the side of van where it scrapped along my car's mirror and fender. I called the police to the scene and there will be a case number shortly according to them.
What I would like to know is how does Imperial Truck Hire handle these types of situations? I have included the photos I took at the scene. The white Mercedes is my car.

Some time and communications later, I start getting annoyed
Rosemary Moss/Ann Reed
Hi, does someone want to explain this to me? Why do I get told by Junior Naidoo that he is waiting for your go-ahead and Imperial keeps telling me that he already has it?
I have been very patient but it has been two months now and no one will give me a straight answer.
Thanks for your attention in this matter.
Jo
Goodnes I think you have the wrong Rosemary, I have no idea who Junior Naidoo is or anything about the below problem.
Thanks
Nice brush off heh?
Hi Rosemary.
The reason (looking back through my emails) you don't know about this is because the original email I sent to you at this address ...
Insert Original Email Here
was read and intercepted by Eileen or Linda? I originally contacted you because I got your email address from the official website and you appeared to be in a position of power within the company.
When I sent this email I sent it to both yourself and to Ann Reed. Who is head of Imperial truck rental? I keep getting the run around and false promises. Are you able to point me in the right direction or do I need to turn this into a public spectacle before someone takes any notice of this problem?
Thanks
Jo
Needless to say, I never heard from anyone and then sent this final email! You can understand how irritated I was at this stage!
To anyone who reads this and takes it seriously.
Several months ago one of your vehicles was the cause of the accident described in my first email included for the third time below. This resulted in damage to the side my Mercedes Benz. For everyone who has now forgotten and hoped I was just some dim-witted individual who would accept defeat, please RE-READ the email.
I have now run out of patience for the lies and the run-around I have gotten for almost 3 months. It is not for me to waste endless time and money on trying to get you to fulfill your promises as well as your responsibility! It is time your company lives up to its verbal promises to me. The worth of a company is in its word. So far Imperial has failed dismally!
I am a web designer, an author, and an Architect. If this matter is not settled by the end of next week I will launch a media attack on the whole Imperial Group. Let's see how amusing you find all of this once it starts to affect your bottom line as far as the revenue you generate from locals as well as foreigners.
This matter (and your lack of regard towards it) will be publicised in the many different media that is available to me. Dot.co.za's are quite cheap to take out and an excellent way to convey the truth. I also regularly write articles and I have a few friends who would be willing to give me some space (one of them is even with the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists) to voice my problems with your company.
I think that this is disgraceful. You not only have full insurance but you also charge anyone who rents one of your vehicle a insurance extra. I would have thought that your name was worth something other than two and a half thousand rand that it has cost me to have my car repaired.
So, either you resolve this matter by the closing of next week or by the following Monday I will have started the first Imperial.co.za website. At this point I would like to encourage you to take me quite seriously. Once I go to that kind of trouble, I WILL NOT be taking down any of the websites, should you decide to take responsibility in this matter at a latter date, unless I am fully compensated for ALL of my expenses, my time, AND compounded Interest since the car was repaired.
The ball is in your court. Your choice in action or inaction shall demonstrate how 'Proudly South African' your company really is. I wonder what http://www.hellopeter.co.za/ might think of all of this? I am quite an avid supporter of the site
Jo
So there you have it! During telephonic conversations I was told not to worry that since the damages fell into a low price bracket their policy was to pay out.
All the paperwork that was requested was provided with several quotes for the damages to the car.
The only thing Imperial has contributed to thus far is in wasting my time and money! To date, I've heard nothing from them and I have finally gotten around to this website.
I guess they thought I wasn't serious!
